Luxury hotels revitalize historic landmarks in Madrid and Lisbon

Major historic landmarks in Madrid and Lisbon are undergoing significant transformations to offer contemporary luxury hospitality.

In Madrid, the Metrópolis Hotel & Club is repurposing the iconic Metrópolis building, a neo-Renaissance landmark located at the intersection of Calle de Alcalá and Gran Vía. Originally constructed between 1907 and 1911, the building will now feature 19 suites, a private club, dining facilities, and wellness experiences, allowing visitors to access its historic architecture.

In Lisbon, the Tivoli Avenida Liberdade, a luxury hotel operating since 1933, has unveiled renovated rooms and suites. Designed by Rodrigo Izquierdo Studio, the redesign draws inspiration from the hotel’s modernist heritage and the city’s aesthetic, utilizing a color palette known as ‘Lisbon Flair’ that incorporates blues, greens, and terracotta tones. The renovation emphasizes Portuguese craftsmanship and high-end materials to create a residential-style luxury experience.
