Luxury superyacht Angiola II sinks off Sardinia days after delivery

The Angiola II, a 98-foot luxury superyacht valued at approximately $9.1 million, sank off the coast of Sardinia near Porto Cervo. The incident occurred on August 13, 2026, just four days after the vessel was delivered to its new owner, an Italian businessman.

Reports indicate the sinking was preceded by a catastrophic engine failure that ignited a fire. This failure reportedly compromised the ship’s seals, allowing seawater to flood the hull. The vessel lost buoyancy, listed heavily, and eventually capsized in the shallow waters between L’Isola dei Cappuccini and Capo Ferro.

Fourteen people, including crew and guests, were on board at the time of the emergency. All individuals were successfully rescued and no injuries were reported. Italian authorities are currently investigating the exact sequence of events, and preparations for a salvage operation have begun. Initial environmental checks found no evidence of fuel leaks from the sunken hull.
