Luxury travel demand rises as high-cost trips increase
Travel patterns are shifting toward high-cost, luxury experiences as travelers prioritize vacations despite economic shifts. According to Squaremouth’s Q3 2026 Travel Insurance Trends Report, insured trips costing $30,000 or more rose 27.2% year-over-year, while trips under $10,000 declined by 2.3%.
This divergence is reflected in the hospitality sector. Luxury hotels recorded a 13.3% year-over-year RevPAR growth in the first half of 2026, whereas economy hotels were the only segment to report declines in occupancy, average daily rate (ADR), and RevPAR.
Market trends suggest travelers are treating vacations as non-negotiable expenses, seeking savings in other areas to fund premium travel. Additionally, high-profile events such as concerts and sporting championships continue to drive significant demand and price spikes in host cities.
