Luz Adriana Camargo addresses UNGRD corruption and major criminal investigations
Colombian Attorney General Luz Adriana Camargo has addressed several high-profile judicial investigations involving corruption and organized crime. Regarding the National Unit for Disaster Risk Management (UNGRD) scandal, Camargo stated that investigations into water tanker purchases for La Guajira revealed a significant corruption structure. This has led to the indictment of high-level officials and the referral of 33 congressmen to the Supreme Court.
Camargo also addressed the departure of Carlos Ramón González, former director of the Administrative Department of the Presidency (Dapre), noting that delays in issuing arrest warrants likely facilitated his exit from the country. Additionally, the extradition process for Diego Marín Buitrago, known as ‘Papá Pitufo,’ continues in Portugal following an initial court approval in March 2025.
In a separate matter, Camargo commented on the case of criminal leader Alexander Díaz Mendoza, alias Calarcá. She admitted that while the Fiscalía had seized electronic devices from Mendoza in July 2024, the information had not been analyzed due to the ongoing forensic extraction process. However, she confirmed that the data eventually obtained served as the basis for his indictment.
