Luz Ibáñez Carranza receives support for International Court of Justice candidacy

The Lima Bar Association (CAL) has launched a national and international campaign to support the candidacy of Peruvian judge Luz Ibáñez Carranza for the International Court of Justice (ICJ) in The Hague. The election is scheduled for November 6 at the United Nations headquarters in New York.

Ibáñez Carranza, who currently serves as a judge at the International Criminal Court (ICC), has been presented as a candidate by Mexico and Hungary. During her visit to Lima, she met with officials including the President of the Chamber of Deputies, Óscar Retto, and Foreign Minister Carlos Espá to discuss her candidacy and the importance of Peruvian female representation in international judicial bodies.

CAL Dean Delia Espinoza emphasized the judge’s 45-year career in national and international judiciaries as a primary qualification for the role.
