Luzon Economic Corridor gains EU and Spanish support

The Luzon Economic Corridor (LEC) is gaining significant international backing as the European Union and Spain pledge support for the initiative. The EU intends to utilize its Global Gateway initiative to provide potential financing and investment for renewable energy, digital connectivity, and various infrastructure projects within the corridor.

Spain has committed to supporting LEC projects through technical assistance, private-sector participation, and financing. Spanish Ambassador Miguel Delgado noted that the protocol aims to unlock funding for Spanish companies to participate in sectors including rail, shipbuilding, aerospace, and infrastructure.

U.S. Ambassador Lee Lipton emphasized that the corridor's primary goal is human-centric, focusing on creating high-quality jobs and career opportunities for Filipinos. Speaking at the LEC Investment Forum alongside President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr., Lipton highlighted the importance of turning the corridor’s vision into concrete projects to deepen economic ties between the Philippines and the United States.

The LEC, which connects Subic Bay, Clark, Manila, and Batangas, was originally launched in 2024 by the Philippines, the United States, and Japan. It has since expanded to include partners such as Australia, Canada, Denmark, France, Italy, South Korea, Sweden, and the United Kingdom.
