Álvaro Fernando Arias assumes interim presidency of Bolivia's National Customs

Álvaro Fernando Arias Gonzales has assumed the interim presidency of Bolivia's National Customs, replacing Alberto Soto. The appointment was formalized by the Minister of Economy and Public Finance, Christian Morales.

Arias, who formerly served as the regional manager for the Customs in La Paz, has outlined a six-month priority focused on the institutionalization of the agency. He aims to simplify customs procedures and reduce bureaucracy to facilitate foreign trade and eliminate administrative bottlenecks.

As part of this transition, Arias announced that a contingency plan will be implemented within three months in coordination with the Ministry of Economy and foreign trade operators. This plan is intended to improve internal processes and expedite export clearances.

The leadership change follows the removal of Alberto Soto, who is reportedly under investigation for alleged corruption. The government has already submitted a project for the institutionalization of the Customs to the Plurinational Legislative Assembly to support these structural reforms.
