Lviv officials under investigation after altercation during military recruitment check

An altercation occurred in Lviv, Ukraine, during a military recruitment document check on September 8. The incident began when a conscript refused to present military registration documents to police and Territorial Recruitment Center (TCC) officials and fled into an apartment building.

As officials pursued the individual, a physical confrontation broke out between the team and a woman at the building entrance. Video footage circulating on social media shows the woman falling to the ground during the struggle. Accounts of the incident conflict: the Lviv Regional TCC claims the woman obstructed officials and used tear gas, while local witnesses suggest an official initiated physical contact, prompting her use of gas.

Lviv police have launched an investigation into the incident, including an administrative inquiry into a police officer involved for potential illegal actions or negligence. Ukraine’s Human Rights Ombudsman, Dmytro Lubinets, has also intervened, stating that the use of force, the conduct of the officials, and the allegations against the woman must all be evaluated separately.
