LVRTC advises eParaksts mobile users to update ID numbers after CSDD cyberattack
Following a cyberattack on the Road Traffic Safety Directorate (CSDD) that resulted in the compromise of personal data, including personal identity codes, the Latvian State Radio and Television Center (LVRTC) has issued a security advisory for eParaksts mobile users.
While eParaksts mobile data was not directly affected by the CSDD attack, LVRTC warns that if a user’s eParaksts mobile ID number is their personal identity code, attackers could attempt to gain unauthorized access to their accounts or other e-services, such as internet banking. Although the identity code alone does not grant access to eParaksts services, it could be used to facilitate fraudulent access attempts.
LVRTC advises users to remain vigilant against unexpected phone calls, SMS messages, or emails, even those appearing to be from eParaksts. Users are urged to carefully evaluate any identity authentication requests received on their smartphones.
Users whose eParaksts mobile ID number is currently their personal identity code are encouraged to change it to a system-generated seven-digit combination via the “Products” section of their profile on the eParaksts.lv portal. Changing this number will also automatically update the eID Scan user number.
