Lyceum Club Femenino centenary exhibition inaugurated in Madrid

Spain's Minister of Culture, Ernest Urtasun, has inaugurated an exhibition commemorating the centenary of the Lyceum Club Femenino. Founded in Madrid in 1926, the association was a pioneering feminist institution that promoted education, culture, and civil equality.

The exhibition, hosted at the Fundación Ortega-Marañón, features 184 works from 37 national and international providers. It will remain open to the public until January 22, 2027. The display is organized into thematic sections, including ‘Pioneras’, which explores the social and cultural transformations led by Spanish women, and ‘Nuestro Club’, which details the association's history and its various headquarters, such as the Casa de las Siete Chimeneas.

Historically, the Lyceum Club Femenino served as a professional network for intellectuals, organized into specialized sections such as Literature, Music, and Science. The club also had a significant social impact, establishing the ‘Casa de los Niños’ in 1929, a secular nursery providing free education for the children of working-class women.
