Lyceum Club Femenino centenary honored with exhibition and stamp

An exhibition and commemorative stamp have been launched to honor the centenary of the Lyceum Club Femenino, a pioneering association founded in Madrid in 1926. The institution served as a vital intellectual and cultural hub for women in Spain, fostering dialogue in fields such as art, science, law, and education.

Inaugurated by Culture Minister Ernest Urtasun at the Fundación Ortega-Marañón, the exhibition features 184 works from various public institutions and private collections. The event highlights the club's role in defending civil rights and its members' contributions to public life. Urtasun noted that the club's legacy represents a struggle for democratic values and women's rights that faced suppression during the Franco regime.

To mark the 2026 centenary, Correos is also issuing a commemorative stamp as part of its 'Pioneras' series. The club's history includes influential figures such as Clara Campoamor, Victoria Kent, and María de Maeztu, who utilized the association to advocate for social initiatives and intellectual development.
