Lydia Cacho hearing postponed due to technical issues
A scheduled hearing in the legal case involving journalist Lydia Cacho and former Puebla Governor Mario Marín Torres has been postponed due to alleged technical failures. The Fourth District Court in Quintana Roo reported that the Webex videoconferencing system failed, with Cacho’s defense team noting that their account appeared as disabled when attempting to join the virtual session.
The postponed proceeding was intended to be the sentencing stage, where both parties present final oral and written closing arguments. This stage marks the conclusion of the discussion phase, providing the judge with the final arguments necessary to reach a resolution.
The advocacy organization Artículo 19 expressed strong disagreement with the delay, highlighting that logistical errors and technical issues continue to obstruct justice more than 21 years after the events. The case stems from the 2005 arbitrary detention of Cacho, during which she reported suffering death threats, sexual violence, and physical and psychological torture while being transported from Cancún to Puebla.
