Lydia Sham wins wushu gold at Asian Games, fulfilling promise to EXO's Kai
Hong Kong wushu athlete Lydia Sham won the gold medal in the women's changquan event at the 2026 Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games. Her victory, achieved with a score of 9.713, secured the first gold medal for the Hong Kong delegation at the games, narrowly defeating Macau's Sou Chu-man by 0.003 points.
Sham, a long-time fan of the K-pop group EXO, gained significant attention for fulfilling a promise made to member Kai during a past fan signing event. In a video shared on social media, Kai was seen asking if she could win a gold medal, to which she replied she would do her best. Following her victory, Sham tagged the group and Kai on Instagram, stating, “I really won the Asian Games gold medal! I worked very hard to keep this promise.”
A dedicated fan for 13 years, Sham noted that seeing EXO perform inspired her to pursue a professional athletic career to shine on stage herself. She even incorporated the group's hexagonal symbol into her competition uniform.
