Lymphatic system function and drainage importance

The lymphatic system plays a critical role in the body by returning excess fluid from tissues to the bloodstream through a network of vessels and nodes. Proper lymphatic drainage requires specific techniques to ensure efficiency.

Effective manual lymphatic drainage must prioritize the stimulation of lymph nodes in central areas—such as the clavicular and neck regions—before addressing the extremities. This approach ensures that the pathways are open to receive the fluid being moved. Techniques like diaphragmatic breathing can also assist in stimulating the deep lymphatic system in the abdominal cavity.

Common signs of lymphatic system dysfunction include swelling in the limbs, a sensation of heaviness, and clothing or jewelry suddenly feeling tight. Other symptoms may include skin that appears stretched or thickened, reduced mobility in affected areas, and an increased risk of recurring skin infections.
