Lynn Boylan rallies MEPs to monitor activists' trial in Germany

Sinn Féin MEP Lynn Boylan is campaigning for European politicians to monitor the trial of five activists, known as the ‘Ulm 5’, in Germany. Among the defendants is Daniel Tatlow-Devally, a 32-year-old Dubliner.

The group is accused of an alleged break-in at an Elbit Systems defense factory in Ulm in September 2025. German prosecutors allege the group caused approximately €1 million in damages and have charged them under Section 129 of the criminal code regarding membership in a criminal organization. The defendants have denied wrongdoing, stating their actions were acts of civil disobedience protesting the war in Gaza.

Boylan, who previously attended a hearing in Stuttgart, is seeking to organize MEPs to observe the proceedings to ensure fairness. She is also calling for the Irish government and the European Commission to send observers and is organizing a letter-writing campaign for those unable to attend in person.
