Lyon and Strasbourg honor Martin Luther King legacy

In Lyon, the Mouvement pour une alternative non-violente and the Institut Français de Civilisation Musulmane (IFCM) have launched ‘L’Appel de Lyon’. This initiative, created to commemorate Martin Luther King’s visit to the city, promotes dialogue, fraternity, and non-violence. The text rejects all forms of racism, antisemitism, and anti-Muslim hatred, calling upon public institutions, schools, media, and citizens to foster mutual respect and combat prejudice through culture and knowledge.

Simultaneously, the exhibition ‘Martin Luther King – Droit à la liberté’ has arrived in France at the Bibliothèque nationale et universitaire (BNU) in Strasbourg. Following stops in Stockholm and Rome, the exhibit uses archives, photographs, and audiovisual documents to trace the civil rights leader’s struggles. It highlights his iconic ‘I have a dream’ speech and the influence of gospel singer Mahalia Jackson on his historic delivery.
