Lyon Open returns to ATP tour with Tiafoe withdrawal

The Lyon Open is returning to the ATP calendar from October 19 to 25, transitioning to a format played on indoor synthetic courts. The tournament features several high-profile players, including veterans Gaël Monfils and Stan Wawrinka, who have both received wildcards. Monfils is currently on a farewell tour as he prepares to retire at the end of the season.

However, top seed Frances Tiafoe has withdrawn from the competition due to a leg injury. The withdrawal is a significant blow to his efforts to secure a spot in the ATP Finals in Turin, as he currently holds a narrow lead in the race for the top eight. Following Tiafoe's exit, Flavio Cobolli is expected to become the tournament's top seed. Other notable participants include Brandon Nakashima, Tommy Paul, Lorenzo Musetti, and Hubert Hurkacz.
