Lyon police arrest suspects in fatal robbery and Villeurbanne shooting
Authorities in the Lyon metropolitan area have made several arrests following two separate violent incidents.
In Lyon, an 82-year-old man died following a violent robbery at the Sans-Souci metro station. The victim and a companion were targeted when attackers forcibly took a necklace from one of them. Shortly after the assault, the elderly man suffered a cardiorespiratory arrest at the Saxe-Gambetta station and passed away in the care of emergency services. Police have detained a 20-year-old man and a 21-year-old woman in connection with the robbery resulting in death.
In Villeurbanne, investigators have arrested five suspects, including two minors aged 14 and 17, following a daylight shootout in the Grandclément neighborhood on August 10. The incident involved an exchange of gunfire between individuals using handguns and submachine guns. Police are investigating the matter as an attempted murder by an organized group, with current leads suggesting the violence may be linked to drug trafficking in the area.
