Lyon shopping center fight results in permanent mutilation

A violent altercation between two women, former acquaintances since middle school, occurred on Saturday, August 15, at the Part-Dieu shopping center in Lyon. During the fight, a 24-year-old woman bit her 25-year-old former friend with such force that a finger bone was severed. Medical professionals were unable to reattach the digit, resulting in a permanent disability for the victim.

The victim reported that the defendant had previously sent threatening voice messages, including threats against her life and her children. During the court hearing, the defendant denied making death threats and contested that she intended to cause such a severe injury. Despite the gravity of the mutilation, the Lyon Criminal Court sentenced the defendant to 10 months of prison with an eight-month suspended sentence under probation. The court also imposed a two-year ban on the defendant approaching the victim's home or the shopping center.
