Lytton wildfire forces evacuations, one home destroyed

The Saw Creek wildfire near Lytton, British Columbia, is estimated at 704 hectares and remains active at Rank 1‑3. The BC Wildfire Service reports that fire activity fell overnight thanks to cooler temperatures and lighter winds, but hotter, drier conditions are expected to increase activity later in the day.

Thompson‑Nicola Regional District director Tricia Thorpe confirmed that one resident has lost their home, stating, “We do have one resident in the TNRD that lost their home.” An evacuation order covers three properties in the village of Lytton and 12 in Electoral Area I (Blue Sky Country), with an evacuation alert affecting about 212 addressed properties in the village and two in the neighboring area. Highway 1 remains closed between Boston Bar and south of Cache Creek. BC Wildfire Service has deployed roughly 150 firefighters, an incident‑management team, 10 helicopters, several pieces of heavy equipment and 53 structure‑protection personnel. An evacuation centre is operating at the Lytton First Nation Battlefield Community Hall (1756 Battlefield Rd).
