Lytton mayoral election ends in a tie

The municipal election in Lytton, British Columbia, has resulted in a tie between mayoral candidates Denise O’Connor and Jennifer Thoss. Both candidates received 45 votes, according to results posted to the village website.

The candidates hold differing perspectives on the community's recovery following a devastating 2021 wildfire that destroyed 90 per cent of the village. Thoss, a current councillor, has criticized the rebuilding process, expressing concerns that planned infrastructure projects funded by the federal government could lead to financial instability for the small village due to a shrunken tax base. O’Connor, the incumbent, has maintained that focusing on negative aspects will not assist the town in attracting new and returning residents.
