Lyubov Kostova advocates for active citizenship and voting
Lyubov Kostova, head of the Beautiful Science Foundation and founder of the Sofia Science Festival, has called for active citizenship during the election period. Voting early on election day, Kostova emphasized that being a citizen requires active participation and that weather conditions should not serve as an excuse for abstaining from the vote.
Kostova argued that the right to vote extends beyond selecting political representatives, as it allows citizens to influence the institutional agenda. She linked active citizenship to informed decision-making and the development of a civil society. Furthermore, she noted that citizen engagement is crucial for shaping policies in science and education, particularly regarding climate change, raw material consumption, and infrastructure engineering.
Kostova, who was nominated for the BNR “Awakener of the Year” campaign, also highlighted the involvement of over 300 volunteers in science festivals across Sofia, Varna, and Plovdiv. She noted that her own children, including daughters living in Portugal and Ireland, traveled significant distances to cast their votes.
