M. Night Shyamalan launches YouTube series Night Diaries

Filmmaker M. Night Shyamalan has launched a new YouTube series titled ‘Night Diaries.’ The project aims to share his filmmaking experiences and personal reflections directly with viewers.

In the debut episode, titled ‘Signs,’ Shyamalan reads from a production journal he kept during the filming of his 2002 sci-fi thriller, ‘Signs.’ He noted that he began the practice of daily journaling after reading ‘The Jaws Log’ by Carl Gottlieb.

The video includes behind-the-scenes insights, such as the casting process for the film. Shyamalan revisited entries detailing how Mel Gibson eventually took the lead role after the director approached Paul Newman and Clint Eastwood, and how Joaquin Phoenix replaced Mark Ruffalo. He also reflected on the casting of Rory Culkin and the emotional weight of reading entries dated around September 11, 2001.
