M Residence completed by MOLD Architects on Serifos
MOLD Architects has completed the M Residence on the Greek island of Serifos. Located on the exposed hills of Lia, the terracotta-colored structure is designed as a compact square volume featuring seven open-air courtyards carved through its center.
The project has a unique history, with architect Iliana Kerestetzi first conceiving the design in 2011. After remaining unbuilt for over a decade, the project was revived by new owners, allowing Kerestetzi to adapt her original drawings with a more fluid layout and warmer materials.
The residence’s geometric silhouette draws inspiration from Cycladic monasteries, traditional island cubic forms, and rural stone buildings. While the exterior maintains a strict, solid perimeter with recessed windows and perforated brick screens, the interior utilizes curved passages and rounded corners to connect the various courtyards and shaded passages.
