Malaysia corruption: UiTM Holdings official detained and M. Saravanan trial update
A former high-ranking official of UiTM Holdings Sdn Bhd has been detained by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) regarding the suspected misuse of position involving approximately RM42 million in operating expenses. The investigation relates to significant losses experienced by the company in 2023. Preliminary findings suggest the official may have approved payments to companies in which he held direct personal interests.
Separately, former Human Resources Minister M. Saravanan is preparing for his corruption trial involving allegations of receiving RM1.097 million in bribes related to foreign worker quotas. While the defense has requested an expedited trial date, the prosecution has requested more time to provide necessary documents, including Cabinet papers and memoranda. The next court mention is scheduled for November 3.
