M-Sport identifies cause of Jon Armstrong’s Rally Chile crash
M-Sport Ford team principal Richard Millener has identified pacenotes as the primary cause behind Jon Armstrong’s accident during Rally Chile. Despite a cautious strategy that included carrying two spare tires, Armstrong entered a tightening right-hand corner on SS8 with too much speed, striking a bank and rolling his Puma Rally1 onto its side.
While Armstrong managed to reach the end of the stage, the vehicle sustained irreparable damage, ending his participation. Millener noted that the error occurred in a specific type of corner similar to those encountered in Paraguay and Portugal. He emphasized that Rally Chile offers almost no margin for error compared to other rallies like Estonia or Poland, where drivers can often recover from minor excursions.
