Đàm Tùng Vận faces debate over appearance in ‘Lan Hương Như Cố’

The Chinese drama ‘Lan Hương Như Cố’ is gaining significant popularity, driven by actress Đàm Tùng Vận’s performance as Thẩm Gia Lan. The series, which explores family upheavals, political shifts, and survival in a feudal society, has reached a high level of online interest and television ratings.

Despite the show's success, Đàm Tùng Vận faces ongoing debate regarding her suitability for historical roles. While her natural acting ability and emotional depth are noted, some viewers argue that her youthful, innocent appearance lacks the maturity and sharpness required for a character navigating complex clan conspiracies. The role requires her to portray a character transitioning from a sheltered lady to a resilient survivor, a challenge that highlights both her strengths in expressive acting and the criticisms regarding her physical suitability for ‘strong female lead’ archetypes in period dramas.
