M4 Sport reaches 2.2 million Hungarians with Tour de France broadcast
Hungary’s public broadcaster aired the Tour de France for the first time on M4 Sport and Duna World. Across the 23‑day race the combined reach was 2,247,742 viewers, representing about 27.6 % of the country's population, with 629,619 online video launches. Nielsen provided the television figures and Gemius supplied the digital data. The broadcast rights for the 2026‑2032 cycle cost the state‑media group 7.03 million euros (roughly 2.7 billion forints). Eurosport Hungary chief Gábor Szabó criticised the use of public funds for rights already held by the commercial Eurosport network.
Separate ratings data show that Hungary’s commercial TV market returned to its usual hierarchy after the football World Cup. The Sunday Formula 1 Hungarian Grand Prix attracted 299,000 viewers, but news programmes such as Tények and RTL Híradó drew larger audiences overall. TV2 led the weekly audience share with 14.3 % among adults 18‑59 (33.3 % of the total population), ahead of RTL’s 12.8 % (22.9 %). The competition among broadcasters remains tight, with TV2 edging RTL by only a few percentage points in most segments.
