M5 motorway: New bicycle path to connect Szeged and Domaszék

Dávid Vitézy, the Minister of Transport and Investment, has announced the construction of a new, physically separated bicycle path over the M5 motorway. The project aims to bridge a critical gap in the cycling network between Szeged and Domaszék.

Currently, cyclists are forced to use the main road at the intersection of Route 55 and the M5 motorway, a situation described as dangerous due to the crossing of heavy vehicle traffic. The new infrastructure will involve expanding the approach roads to the existing road bridge over the M5 to accommodate a dedicated lane for cyclists. This lane will connect to the existing independent cycling paths and extend to the roundabout on Route 55.

Implementation plans are complete, a support agreement is in place, and the preparation for the open construction procurement process has begun.
