M5 vehicle fire causes traffic disruption in Devon

A vehicle fire on the M5 southbound near Tiverton Junction (J27) in Devon caused significant traffic disruption on Monday evening, September 21. The vehicle, which was located on the hard shoulder, was completely destroyed by the flames.

Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service deployed two appliances to the scene, using breathing apparatus and hose reel jets to extinguish the fire. The cause of the blaze has been deemed accidental. Traffic queues, which had reduced the motorway to a single lane, eased after 6:30 pm once the incident was resolved.
