M50 collision leaves nine injured after wrong-way driving
Nine people have been hospitalized following a serious two-vehicle collision on the M50 in Dublin. The incident occurred at approximately 5:30 am on August 9, 2026, near Junction 12.
The crash involved a vehicle traveling northbound on the southbound carriageway. The vehicle was reportedly driving down the up ramp at Junction 12 when it collided head-on with another car. Of the occupants in the first vehicle, eight are male teenagers; one remains in critical condition. The driver of the second vehicle, a man in his 20s, sustained serious injuries.
Fiosrú, the Office of the Police Ombudsman, has launched an independent investigation to determine if any act or omission by a member of the Gardaí resulted in serious harm. Authorities have closed the M50 southbound between Junction 11 and Junction 12, with local diversions in place. Gardaí are appealing for witnesses or anyone with dashcam footage from the period between 5:00 am and 5:30 am to come forward.
