M83 releases new single “Blister Sunrise” ahead of tenth album

M83 has released “Blister Sunrise,” the lead single from the band’s upcoming tenth studio album, titled “I Wrote You a Letter.” The full nine-track album is scheduled for release on September 25 via Anthony Gonzalez’s Other Suns label.

Frontman Anthony Gonzalez described the new project as a spontaneous and less calculated effort, aiming to rediscover the looseness found in the project’s earliest recordings. The single features a cinematic sound characterized by heavy synths, distortion, and shoegaze elements, eventually transitioning into a raw piano composition.

For this album, Gonzalez reunited with collaborator Benoît de Villeneuve and worked with Joe Berry and Clément Libes. The artwork for the release was created by Jean-Philippe Talaga.
