M9 motorway collision kills five teenagers in Ireland
A head-on collision on the M9 motorway in County Kildare has resulted in the deaths of five teenagers and left several others seriously injured. The fatalities include Kamil Pustkowski, 17, Jack Kennedy, 17, Jeremy O’Brien, 18, Joe Carthy, 15, and Alex McCarthy, 16. The victims were traveling in a BMW that was reportedly driving the wrong way on the motorway when it struck a family vehicle.
Three sisters—Niamh Kinsella, Ella Hendricken, and Alma Kinsella—along with Alma’s seven-year-old son, Yemi, sustained serious injuries. The survivors are receiving care at Tallaght University, St Vincent’s, and Children’s Health Ireland hospitals. While the injuries are described as potentially life-altering, including spinal injuries and broken bones, friends of the family expressed hope for a full recovery as the victims have moved from critical to seriously injured status.
In the aftermath, the mother of Kamil Pustkowski, Emilia Pustkowska, defended her son against online criticism. She stated that she had previously pleaded with the justice system to intervene and potentially incarcerate her son to prevent his escalating behavior, noting that his court case had faced multiple adjournments.
