M9 motorway crash kills five teenagers in Ireland

A fatal wrong-way collision on the M9 motorway in Co Kildare, Ireland, has resulted in the deaths of five teenagers: Jeremy O’Brien, 18, Alex McCarthy, 17, Joey Carthy, 15, Jack Kennedy, 17, and Kamil Pustkowski, 17. The teenagers were traveling in a BMW when they collided head-on with a Hyundai carrying a family en route to Dublin Airport.

Three women and a child from the second vehicle—Niamh and Alma Kinsella, Ella Hendricken, and a young boy—sustained catastrophic injuries and remain hospitalized. Over €700,000 has been raised to support the injured family.

The tragedy has sparked intense community reaction and grief. Margaret Berry, mother of Jeremy O’Brien, expressed deep remorse and apologized to the injured family, stating, “This tragedy should never have happened.” Emilia Pustkowska, mother of Kamil Pustkowski, defended her son against claims he was the group's leader.

Survivors of previous wrong-way accidents on Irish motorways have expressed profound trauma following the incident. Authorities are conducting a full investigation into the circumstances of the crash, which has renewed discussions regarding dangerous driving enforcement and social media influences.
