M&A deals surge in Colombia and Argentina in 2026

In Colombia, the second‑quarter M&A market highlighted leading lawyers who advised on transactions worth a combined US$4.2 billion. Fernando Alfredo Castillo of Brigard Urrutia topped the list with US$1.332 billion across four deals, while Felipe Quintero Serrano of Martínez Quintero Mendoza González Laguado & De La Rosa recorded US$844 million from six transactions.

In Argentina, the first half of 2026 saw 56 M&A transactions valued at about US$5.7 billion, the third‑best semester since 2010, driven largely by the energy sector and the Vaca Muerta shale play. The oil‑and‑gas segment accounted for roughly a third of the total, highlighted by Vistaa Equinor’s US$1.1 billion acquisition of Vaca Muerta assets. Local investors carried out 59 % of the deals, according to PwC Argentina, indicating growing confidence in the domestic market.
