Ma Do Shik, veteran South Korean actor, dies at 82

South Korean actor Ma Do Shik, known for his extensive career in film and his frequent roles as a villain in action movies, passed away on August 14 at the National Medical Center in Seoul. He was 82 years old.

Born Woo Sang Ik in 1944 in Goesan, North Chungcheong Province, he began his career as a weightlifter before entering the film industry in 1960. His notable filmography includes works such as ‘Imbecile’ (1985), ‘Dark City’ (1990), ‘Death Song’ (1991), and his acclaimed role in ‘Valley of the Villain’ (1973).

Beyond acting, Ma was a multifaceted filmmaker. Under the pseudonym Ma Ju Haeng, he wrote, directed, and starred in the 1994 film ‘Lost Desire’, while also contributing as a composer. In 2024, he served as an advisor to the Korean Film Actors Association.
