M&A insurance demand expected to rise amid growing dealmaking confidence
According to the fourth edition of the Global M&A Trends and Risks report by Norton Rose Fulbright and Mergermarket, the use of representation and warranty (R&W/W&I) insurance in mergers and acquisitions is expected to rise in 2026. This trend suggests growing dealmaker confidence despite geopolitical and regulatory uncertainties. Fifty-eight per cent of respondents anticipate an increase in insurance use compared to 2025.
Global dealmaking is projected to increase in 2026, with 52% of business executives forecasting growth. The technology sector is expected to lead cross-border expansion, with 67% of respondents identifying it as the top sector. Artificial intelligence (AI) is a major driver, with 78% of respondents citing it as the most attractive opportunity, up from 60% in 2025. Private equity dry powder, industry consolidation, and the disposal of non-core assets are also cited as key drivers of activity.
Regarding financing, 86% of respondents expect private credit to remain a primary source of M&A funding over the next two years. The United States and Europe are anticipated to be among the strongest markets in 2026.
