Ma Xingrui expelled from Chinese Communist Party amid anti‑corruption drive
Former Politburo member and ex‑Xinjiang party chief Ma Xingrui has been expelled from the Communist Party of China and removed from public office after a corruption investigation. The Central Commission for Discipline Inspection and the National Supervisory Commission found that Ma engaged in “serious violations of discipline and law,” including accepting gifts and cash, facilitating below‑market property purchases for relatives, and exchanging power for money and sexual favors. He also allegedly used his influence to secure jobs and benefits for associates and family members.
Ma’s expulsion marks the third sitting Politburo member to be purged since 2025, reflecting President Xi Jinping’s intensified anti‑graft campaign that has already targeted senior military and party officials. The case has been transferred to prosecutors, and any illicit gains are to be confiscated. Ma’s delegate status to the 20th Party Congress has been terminated, and the party expulsion will be confirmed at a Central Committee plenary session.
