Ma7 media group received over 12 million euros in Hungarian public funds
The Ma7 media group, operating in Slovakia, has received more than 12 million euros in Hungarian public funds since 2017. These funds were distributed through the Pro Media Foundation, a major beneficiary of the Bethlen Gábor Foundation.
Reports indicate that the media group, which includes the Magyar7 weekly and the ma7.sk news portal, has been used to promote the messages of the Hungarian Alliance and other political entities aligned with the Hungarian government. The media outlets have also been noted for disseminating pro-Russian stances regarding the war in Ukraine.
Financial analysis suggests that a significant portion of the funding was directed to H & K Plus, a company with ties to the Hungarian Alliance that lacks a public website. In 2021, over 95 percent of H & K Plus's revenue originated from the Pro Media Foundation. Documentation obtained through public interest data requests shows that while the foundation receives between 1.2 and 1.5 million euros annually, detailed public accounting of these expenditures remains unavailable.
