Mabel Frías sets Argentine record by giving birth at age 62
Mabel Frías, a 62-year-old retiree, has become the oldest woman to give birth in Argentina after undergoing in vitro fertilization (IVF) with donated eggs. The birth took place on Wednesday, the 12th, at the Hospital San Felipe in San Nicolás de los Arroyos, Buenos Aires province.
Frías, who is postmenopausal, sought medical evaluation from reproductive specialist Matías Colabianchi last year. After being deemed fit for the procedure, she underwent IVF, where an embryo created in a laboratory was transferred to her uterus.
The baby, a boy named David, was born via cesarean section weighing 2.75 kg. While the infant spent a brief period in the neonatal intensive care unit, he was reported to be healthy. Frías stated that fulfilling her lifelong dream of motherhood was her primary motivation, noting that she decided to pursue the procedure regardless of her age.
