Mabel Frías gives birth to first child at age 62 in Argentina

Mabel Frías, a 62-year-old woman from San Nicolás, Argentina, has given birth to her first child, a boy named David. The birth, which took place via scheduled cesarean section at Hospital San Felipe, marks what is reported as a significant medical milestone in the country, as no official national registry confirms a more recent case of a woman giving birth at this age.

Because Frías had passed menopause years ago, the pregnancy was made possible through in vitro fertilization (IVF) using donated eggs. The reproductive treatment was conducted by specialist Matías Colabianchi in Rosario. The obstetrician, Romina Ruffini, described the pregnancy as “wonderful” and noted that despite being a high-risk pregnancy due to maternal age, it progressed without complications.

David was born weighing 2.75 kilograms. After a brief period of observation in the neonatal unit, both mother and son were discharged in good health. Frías expressed her joy at fulfilling a lifelong desire to be a mother, stating, “I always wanted to be a mother. I didn't give up.”
