Mabel Matiz faces obscenity investigation over song and video

The Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office has launched an ex officio investigation into Turkish singer Mabel Matiz, whose real name is Fatih Karaca, regarding his song and music videoHa Leylim”. The investigation is being conducted under Article 226 of the Turkish Penal Code, which concerns the crime of obscenity. Authorities are examining both the song's lyrics and the visual content of the music video to determine if they violate legal standards.

Following the announcement of the investigation, an access ban was reportedly placed on the music video on YouTube in Turkey. The song, which blends traditional folk motifs with modern pop, has become a major topic of discussion on social media. Some reports highlight the video's themes and imagery as the primary focus of the legal scrutiny.

This is not the first time the artist has faced such legal challenges. Matiz was recently acquitted of obscenity charges related to his previous song “Perperişan”. In that instance, prosecutors had sought a prison sentence of up to three years, alleging the lyrics contained erotic connotations, but the court ruled that the legal elements of the offense had not been established.
