Mabellini family revives winemaking tradition in Argentina's Alto Valle
Carlos Mabellini and his wife, Lorena Nicolás Creide, are reviving a family winemaking tradition in Argentina’s Alto Valle region. The family’s viticultural roots date back to the 1920s when Pedro Mabellini immigrated from Brescia, Italy, to Patagonia.
While the family continued to produce artisanal wine through Giovanni Mabellini at “Puente La S,” the practice was halted in the 1970s and 1980s as vineyards were replaced by fruit orchards. Decades later, the family has returned to winemaking through Mabellini Wines. They are currently working in Mainqué, utilizing vines that are over 80 years old to produce high-end wines and reclaim their regional history.
