Mabio Mavoungou-Zinga opposes Congo Constitution revision

Mabio Mavoungou-Zinga, president of the Alliance party and former presidential candidate, has publicly denounced the proposed revision of the Republic of Congo’s Constitution. Speaking in Pointe-Noire on October 23, Mavoungou-Zinga characterized the project as an undertaking “confiscatory of power.”

While acknowledging that Articles 240 and 241 of the Constitution provide the legal framework for amendments, Mavoungou-Zinga expressed deep skepticism regarding the intent behind the move. He suggested the timing of the announcements, particularly from figures such as the president of the National Assembly, is suspicious as the current administration enters its final term. He described the political process as a “circus” intended to defy the Congolese people.

Furthermore, the Alliance leader criticized the 42-year governance of the Congolese Party of Labour (PCT), citing a multidimensional crisis. He highlighted severe issues facing the nation, including a struggling health system, electricity shortages, fuel scarcity, deteriorating road infrastructure, and a lack of opportunities for the youth.
