Macaé leads Rio economic rankings as Lufthansa eyes Portuguese pilot school
Macaé has secured first place in the state of Rio de Janeiro for the Economic Insertion pillar of the Municipal Competitiveness Ranking, according to the Centro de Liderança Pública (CLP). The city ranked 10th in the Southeast region and 17th nationally in this specific indicator, which evaluates criteria such as socioeconomic vulnerability, labor market formality, and formal job growth among Brazilian municipalities with over 80,000 inhabitants.
In Portugal, a proposed 500 million euro investment by Lufthansa into a pilot school in Tancos, linked to the partial privatization of TAP, has sparked discussions regarding regional development. Local political representatives from the Chega party suggest that the school could serve as the foundation for a regional aeronautical hub, potentially revitalizing the Vila Nova da Barquinha municipality through specialized technical training, aircraft maintenance, and technological innovation.
