Macaé marks 213th anniversary with Expo 2026 and infrastructure upgrades
Macaé, a city in Rio de Janeiro state, celebrated its 213th anniversary on July 29, 2026. The municipal holiday coincided with Expo Macaé 2026, held from July 24‑29 at the Latiff Mussi Rocha Exhibition Park, offering free entry and attracting thousands of visitors.
During the celebrations the city accelerated several infrastructure projects. The urbanisation of the Nova Esperança neighbourhood was delivered, a new BMX track was opened in the Parque Aeroporto, and the first regional edition of the Special Prices Fair (FEPE) gathered hundreds of companies. The first phase of the Estrada do Sana revitalisation was completed, repaving more than six kilometres, adding drainage, retaining walls and other safety measures to improve mobility for residents, producers and tourists.
A special traffic scheme was put in place for the traditional civic parade. From 5 a.m. onward Avenida Elias Agostinho and Avenida Agenor Caldas were fully closed, with alternative routes via Rua Dr. Júlio Olivier and Rua Abílio Moreira de Miranda for access to Petrobras. Traffic agents directed drivers and encouraged public‑transport use. Mayor Welberth Rezende highlighted the road’s strategic role in linking communities, education, health and commerce.
