MACABRO Horror Film Festival Celebrates 25th Anniversary in Mexico City
The MACABRO International Horror Film Festival (MACABRO FICH) marks its 25th edition with a program running from 12 to 23 August 2026 in Mexico City. The celebration features a series of special screenings, free public showings such as "El Heladero", a "Night of True Crime" documentary segment, and a dedicated AI Day hosted by the Centro de Cultura Digital. For the first time, the festival expands into gaming at the Feria Geek, targeting younger audiences.
The competition presents 64 short films—17 Mexican productions, 23 international works and 24 animated titles—covering supernatural, psychological, folk, body‑horror, sci‑fi and socially‑charged themes. Selections are supported by Mexico’s film agencies FOCINE and PROCINE, highlighting the country’s central role while fostering collaboration with cinemas across the Americas, Europe, Asia and Oceania.
