MacacuCine Festival presents 184 films in Rio de Janeiro

The 18th edition of MacacuCine – International School Cinema Festival is currently taking place in Cachoeiras de Macacu, Rio de Janeiro, running until August 23. The festival, which celebrates 20 years of history, is presenting 184 films, including short, medium, and feature-length productions from various Brazilian states and abroad.

This year's edition set a record with 402 entries from 21 Brazilian states and 10 countries. The festival aims to promote audiovisual media as an educational tool, featuring works produced by students and educators. The program includes five showcases: three competitive categories vying for the Troféu Paschoal Guidae—the School Showcase, the University Showcase, and the Micro Short Showcase—and two non-competitive showcases, including the MICE Cuba (Muestra Internacional Cine Educativo) featuring productions by Cuban children.

Screenings are available through free in-person sessions across the city, as well as online via YouTube and the official festival website. Selected films cover diverse themes such as identity, gender, and LGBTQIAPN+ issues, including works like ‘Faça uma Pose’ and ‘Esses Dias me Viram na Rua’.
