Macallan and Bowmore whiskies dominate high-end auctions
High-end whisky auctions are seeing significant activity, highlighted by a Macallan 1926 Fine & Rare at Sotheby’s, which is estimated to fetch between £1.7 million and £2.2 million. This bottle could potentially challenge the record for the most expensive whisky ever sold. The auction also features rare original Macallan cases and the Romantica Collection, which features artwork by Valerio Adami, Peter Blake, and Michael Dillon.
In separate auction news, Bowmore has also gained attention. Whisky Auctioneer sold a collection including every Black Bowmore ever released, with the Bowmore Trilogy and the Black Bowmore 1964 50-year-old ‘The Last Cask’ contributing to a total of $47,580. Other notable sales include a Bowmore x Aston Martin 1968 Arc-54 for $42,294. While high-profile releases like the Macallan TIME:SPACE Sherry Cask 20-year-old have seen secondary market activity, recent sales suggest that high-profile releases no longer guarantee significant immediate profits for flippers.
