Macará defeats Liga de Quito 2-1 in LigaPro hexagonal match

Macará secured its fourth consecutive victory in the LigaPro hexagonal stage with a 2-1 win against Liga de Quito at the Rodrigo Paz Delgado stadium. Franco Posse opened the scoring for the Ambato-based side, and although Jesús Pretell equalized for the hosts with a powerful strike, Mateo Viera capitalized on a defensive error to restore Macará's lead.

With this result, Macará reaches 63 points, narrowing the gap to the leader, Independiente del Valle, to 15 points. Conversely, the defeat leaves Liga de Quito in fourth place with 53 points, distancing them from Copa Libertadores qualification spots.

Following the match, Liga de Quito manager Gustavo Álvarez criticized his team's lack of depth, clarity, and clinical finishing in the final third. He acknowledged Macará's effectiveness on the counterattack and stated that the squad remains committed to pursuing a 2027 Copa Libertadores berth as long as mathematical possibilities exist.
